Kate Middleton Struts the Baker Boy Hat in a Bold Style Revival Moment
Kate Middleton Struts the Baker Boy Hat in a way that revives a Y2K fashion memory for many of us. If you were around in the noughties, you likely remember this iconic accessory—maybe even owned one yourself (mine was baby pink). Back then, it was a staple on everyone from Britney Spears to Christina Aguilera, and even Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada. The baker boy hat effortlessly moved from pop star glam to countryside chic and Peaky Blinders-inspired edge. In other words, it never really left—it was always finding a head to land on.
Thus, it was a little bit of a surprise for her to be wearing the baker boy hat while engaging young Scouts in the Lake District on the efficacy of nature-based activities from a film just made public. She paired hers with a green tweed bomber jacket, a brown Aran knit, and, of course, her skinny jeans, looking very countryside chic, reminiscent of her sitting on the porch of her home in Norfolk for the 2016 British Vogue cover shoot.
Baker boy hat revival has been brewing for a while in some ways. Back in 2020, we saw Katie Holmes wear one. With the most recent polarizing version of the accessory showing up on Anne Hathaway earlier this year, speculation arose that this was a tongue-in-cheek homage to her character Andy Sachs. There were even reports that Kendall Jenner was seen wearing the headwear that echoed Bob Dylan in Soho back in February, further signaling the baker hat may soon be embraced by fashion’s favorite It-girls.

The reality of Kate’s choice of headwear is that it is probably more of a practical choice than a fashion statement. Perhaps it fulfills the purpose of granting her a bit of anonymity-some sort of extension of the “don’t look at me” mode of dressing we’ve seen her sport lately. Ironically, though, the hat has got us talking handful.
